Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

What is the season for your citrus?

We usually start harvesting mid October. Our Citrus Season usually runs through February 1.

What varieties do you grow?

Our groves are mostly Mandarin varieties including Satsumas, Tango, Marathon, Shiranui and 950s. We also grow Lemons and Hamlin Oranges.

What is the “big ugly fruit” that you grow?

Those are our Shiranui or Dekopon varieties. And, yes, they may be “ugly and rough”, but the taste is spectacular - it will blow you away!!

How many Citrus Trees do you have on your farm?

We have 8,000 + Citrus Trees and are planting new ones every year.

What purpose does the row of “Christmas Trees” next to your groves serve?

Those are actually called “Thuja” Trees. They act as a wind block and help divert or block the cold north winds during winter cold spells.

What is the white product you spray on your trees?

We use Kaolin Clay as a sunblock. But the clay also helps keep the plant cooled in summer and coats the leaves and fruit to help prevent insect damage.

Why do you have flower beds scattered throughout your groves?

Flower beds act as a food source for our beneficial insects. We try to keep blooms all year round to keep pollinators and beneficial insects close.

Do you use bees in the springtime as pollinators?

Yes. we usually bring in 2,000,000 bees from a local bee keeper and place the hives throughout the grove. This helps us get a better crop set.

Are the Farm and Packing Shed open for tours and purchase products?

We are officially open for business at the Packing Shed from November 1 through February 15. However we are on the farm working almost every day. If you need to purchase items, you can call Angela for an appointment (220) 224-7698. Tours must be scheduled ahead of time and we try to arrange them at the Farm Tour on the second weekend of October. However, for school groups, call Angela and she will work out a schedule for you.

Do you add anything to your juice?

No all our juices are 100% pure juice with nothing added. We make it safe but “high pressure processing” which is basically a cold press procedure that subjects the juice to 87,000 pounds of pressure. That kills any pathogens but does not affect the flavor like heat pasteurization does. We refer to our juice products (satsuma juice, orange juice blend, and lemon juice) as liquid fruit and it really tastes just like a piece of fruit.

What is Satsumade?

Satsumade is our version of lemonade. We use Satsuma Juice, Lemon Juice, Cane Sugar and water to make this Summertime Refresher a crowd favorite!
